At the start of July 2025, FlixBus launched a daily service between Calgary, Edmonton, North Battleford, Sasaktoon, and Regina. This is their second route in western Canada, following the launch of Calgary to Banff services last year.
FlixBus, owned by European group Flix SE, provides marketing and ticketing services, while using local motorcoach industry partners to provide buses and drivers, in this case Airdrie-based Universal Coach Lines.
Reservations can be made via FlixBus.ca or schedules and fares compared with other carriers on BusBud.com
The new services will compete head-to-head with existing services on these routes rather than opening up new travel opportunities like a much-needed direct route between Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Medicine Hat, and Calgary.
FlixBus also operates routes in Ontario and between Vancouver and Seattle, and may aspire to recreate a cross-Canada network under its own brand. Transport Action would like to see stronger interline ticketing between all Canadian motorcoach services, including private, public sector, locally-owned, and indigenous-owned operators, and is cautious about the prospect of an internationally-owned entity dominating the market as Greyhound once did.
